Skoda just dropped the Vision O concept at Munich, and it’s a love letter to wagon enthusiasts everywhere. Even as Europe abandons estates for SUVs, the Czech brand is doubling down on the body style that’s made it a category leader since 2016.
The Vision O previews an electric Octavia replacement due in 2027 or 2028, built on Volkswagen Group’s future SSP platform that’ll also underpin the Mk9 Golf. At 4850mm long, it slots between the current Octavia and Superb wagons with a generous 650 litres of boot space expanding to 1700L with seats folded.
Those suicide doors and floating B-pillar treatment will disappear for production, but everything else looks ready for showrooms. The clean flanks, boxy wheel arches, and rakish tailgate create a distinctive silhouette that’s unmistakably Skoda yet thoroughly modern.
Up front, the new “Tech loop face mask” features slim lighting elements that fade into black trim, while T-shaped rear lights complete the minimalist aesthetic. Inside, a massive 1.2-meter horizontal display spans the entire dashboard, eliminating conventional gauges entirely.
The AI-powered Laura assistant can discuss surroundings, take meeting notes, and enhance route planning through the MySkoda app by suggesting charging stops and shopping centers based on user preferences.
Skoda’s Simply Clever philosophy gets sustainable updates here. Seat covers use 100 percent recycled polyester, Ultrasuede NU material contains 65 percent plant-based content, and flooring comes from post-production leather scraps. Plus the usual Skoda surprises like four umbrellas, dedicated charging cable storage, a portable Bluetooth speaker, and even a fridge.
The numbers back Skoda’s wagon commitment. Three million Octavia estates have been sold since 1998, from 7.5 million total Octavias. Over 650,000 Superb wagons moved since 2008 despite launching seven years after the sedan.
Europe’s wagon decline continues, but China is embracing the body style with BYD, Nio, and Zeekr all launching estates recently. Skoda’s betting there’s still life in the long roof game.
