Porsche has lifted the lid on a major step forward in EV usability, confirming that the upcoming Cayenne Electric will debut with inductive wireless charging.
The system removes the need for plugs and cables, offering up to 11 kW of power through a simple floor plate installed in a garage or driveway.
The Cayenne Electric, due for a world premiere at the end of 2025, will be the first Porsche model to feature the option. Customers will be able to order the SUV with a vehicle side receiver plate mounted under the chassis.
When parked over the floor pad, the car lowers itself slightly and the charging process begins automatically. The hardware is protected against weather, dirt and stone chips, and includes safety cut offs if animals or foreign objects enter the charging zone.
For Porsche, the move is about more than convenience. Roughly three quarters of all charging for its current EVs takes place at home. Wireless charging makes this daily routine easier while matching the speed of wired AC solutions.
By 2026, the floor plate will be available for purchase at Porsche Centres and through the Porsche Store, with Europe as the first market. Other regions will follow.
The floor plate itself is a robust piece of kit, weighing in at around 50 kilograms and equipped with LTE and WLAN modules for remote updates.
Drivers will be able to monitor and control charging sessions via the My Porsche app, while the Surround View camera system provides guidance to perfectly align the car over the pad.
The Cayenne Electric will not be limited to home charging, however. Like the Taycan and Macan, it will support blistering DC fast charging, with outputs of up to 400 kW. This positions the SUV at the front of the pack for long distance travel, slashing downtime at Porsche Charging Lounges and other high speed networks.
To turn heads at the IAA Mobility Summit in Munich this September, Porsche has prepared a camouflaged Cayenne prototype coated in fluorescent paint that lights up when electricity flows through it. The finish uses more than 25 ultra thin layers and over 100 litres of clear coat, creating a luminous effect that reflects both engineering ambition and showmanship.
With the Cayenne Electric, Porsche is attempting to redefine what living with a luxury EV feels like. Simple at home charging, cutting edge design and serious road trip capability all wrapped in one very bright package.
