Lotus just rewrote the rules on fast charging. The Emeya hyper-GT hit a peak draw of 443 kW during testing, completing a 10 to 80% charge session in just 13 minutes and 35 seconds.

That’s nearly the full capacity of the 450 kW ultra-fast charger used for the attempt.

The independently verified test took place at Lotus Al Ghanim in Kuwait using the brand’s own charging hardware.

Conditions weren’t exactly favourable either, with what Lotus describes as “extensive heat” testing thermal management under stress.

Local temperatures hovered around 77 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, hardly scorching but enough to challenge battery cooling systems.

The Emeya comes in two variants. The base S model packs dual motors making 603 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque, hitting 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with a 155 mph top speed.

The range-topping R cranks output to 905 horsepower and 726 lb-ft, demolishing the sprint in 2.7 seconds before maxing out at 159 mph.

Both versions use a 98.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The S achieves between 311 and 379 miles of range on a charge, while the more powerful R manages 270 to 301 miles.

For 2026, WLTP range hits up to 379 miles, placing the Emeya among the most capable long-distance EVs available.

The charging performance stems from a cell-to-pack battery architecture that fits roughly 20% more cells into the same space compared to traditional module-based designs.

Lotus pairs this with advanced cooling designed specifically for sustained high-power charging events.

An 800-volt electrical system, shared with the Eletre hyper-SUV, reduces heat buildup and boosts efficiency while enabling significantly faster charging speeds.

Energy consumption drops as low as 18.7 kWh per 100 km. Under ideal conditions, the Emeya can add 193 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Lotus is expanding its 450 kW DC charging network across Europe, starting in Germany with additional markets planned.

The ecosystem integrates with the Lotus Cars app and HyperOS infotainment platform, offering intelligent EV routing, energy-aware trip planning, and real-time charging optimisation.

The record matters because reaching 443 kW puts Lotus at the forefront of real-world charging capability.

As infrastructure improves globally, this kind of high-power charging becomes essential for cutting long-distance travel times and making large-battery EVs genuinely practical.

American buyers can get into an Emeya S for $75,000, while the R tops out at $115,000.

That pricing undercuts the Tesla Model S Plaid by a small margin while delivering comparable performance with significantly faster charging.

The achievement reinforces Lotus’s commitment to future-proofing its electric lineup as global charging networks evolve.
