BMW just handed over the first Skytop, and it’s heading to Italy.
Andrea Levy, an Italian entrepreneur who races in Ferrari Challenge Europe and CIGT Endurance, picked it up at BMW Welt in Munich this week.
He posted about it on Instagram, clearly buzzing. This marks the start of deliveries for BMW’s most exclusive coachbuilt project since the 3.0 CSL.
The Skytop concept showed up at Villa d’Este last year.
What BMW thought would be a design study turned into something collectors wanted immediately. They green-lit 50 units. All gone within weeks.
Pricing was never made public, but multiple reports put the figure around $579,000.
That puts it among BMW’s priciest factory builds ever, though the 3.0 CSL started at $750,000 and now sells for way more.
What Levy got looks almost identical to the Villa d’Este car. Same proportions. Same details.
The targa roof comes off manually with two leather-wrapped panels that tuck into the trunk.
Design-wise, it pulls from the Z8 and 507 with those long GT proportions and clean bodywork. Razor-thin headlamps up front.
A spine running hood to tail. And here’s a first for BMW: electrically operated winglets instead of door handles.
They pop out from the beltline when you unlock it. The delivery video shows a “One of Fifty” plaque on the seats.
The guts are pure M8. That means a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with xDrive all-wheel drive.
BMW hasn’t confirmed output, but expect the M8’s 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Zero to 100 km/h should happen in about 3.3 seconds. Supercar quick.
This also closes the book on the current 8 Series. Production winds down through 2026, and there’s no replacement confirmed yet.
Some insiders reckon a Gran Coupe could return after 2030, but that’s speculation. For now, the Skytop is the final word on BMW’s flagship GT. Not a bad way to go out.
Deliveries have begun, though BMW will likely show the car properly at Tokyo Motor Show next week.
It’s not US homologated, but apparently one’s making its way to the East Coast through private channels.
