BMW just launched its first electric watersports product, an e-SUP stand-up paddleboard developed with Slovenian company SipaBoards.
The BMW x SipaBoards is available now in Europe for $4,650, bringing Neue Klasse design language to the water.
The integrated 300-watt motor and propeller provide thrust assistance up to 4.6 mph without paddling, though the real benefit comes when pushing into headwinds or currents.
Two included 90 Wh battery modules deliver 1 to 3.5 hours of assisted riding depending on usage. Extended 180 Wh modules launching spring 2026 for $455 stretch that to 3 to 7 hours.
The motor handles inflation before you paddle out, eliminating hand pump hassles. Control lives in the carbon fiber paddle via Bluetooth module styled after Neue Klasse UI.
FREUDE Mode adds under-board lighting and haptic feedback. If the paddle drops into water, the return signal cuts motor power immediately for safety.
The smartphone app handles route planning, navigation, battery status, and GPS tracking without unnecessary complications. Just practical features you actually use on the water.
The board measures 3.65 meters long, 0.82 meters wide, and 0.15 meters thick using X woven drop stitch core for stiffness and stability. Total weight hits 14.9 kg with motor installed, rated for two people.

Seventeen attachment points accommodate click-in accessories including cameras, lights, bottles, dry bags, or small coolboxes without improvising straps. LED ambient lighting underneath helps visibility at dusk and makes boarding in low light easier.
This is BMW’s first electric watersports product, and if it proves popular, more could be on the way. The timing fits with BMW’s iX3 launch and a broader effort to bring the Neue Klasse design language outside the automotive world.
