BMW has released the first official look at the upcoming iX3, an electric SUV that will introduce the brand’s Neue Klasse platform and a fresh design language for the entire lineup.
Set to debut at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, the iX3 marks a turning point for BMW. Beyond being a mid size EV with serious range claims, it represents a design reset. Gone are the oversized kidney grilles that divided fans in recent years. In their place is a slimmer, vertical design inspired by the 1962 Neue Klasse. The new grille is also illuminated, with headlights flowing seamlessly into its edges for a cleaner, more cohesive face.
BMW has previewed this styling evolution with two concept cars, but the iX3 will be the first production model to wear it. Expect every new BMW that follows to take cues from this look, from compact sedans to full size SUVs.
Under the skin, the iX3 is the first vehicle to fully leverage the Neue Klasse platform, which was engineered from the ground up for battery electric models. The architecture promises improved efficiency, advanced battery packaging, and the driving dynamics that BMW considers its calling card.
Range will be a headline figure. Early information suggests the iX3 will deliver around 400 miles in the US test cycle. Both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive versions are expected, along with a higher output M Sport edition for buyers wanting more performance.
Inside, the SUV will showcase BMW’s next generation interior concept. The Panoramic iDrive dashboard makes its production debut here, stretching digital displays across two levels for a futuristic driver environment. This rethinking of the cabin could become just as influential as the grille design on BMW’s upcoming models.

The iX3 is therefore more than just another EV launch. It is a statement of intent from Munich, signalling how the brand plans to compete in a market where Tesla, BYD, and Mercedes are all pressing their own design and technology advantages.
Full details will arrive later this week when the iX3 is unveiled at the Munich Motor Show. For now, BMW has made it clear: the Neue Klasse era has begun, and the iX3 is the car that will set the tone.
