The 2026 Polestar 5 is a 650kW electric super sedan priced just under $200,000 in Australia. Orders are already open, with first deliveries expected mid-next year.
We’ve written plenty about Polestar before. The Polestar 4 SUV we ranked #2 in our Best EVs To Buy in Australia in 2025 guide proved the brand could take on family duty without losing performance credibility. Now, the 5 marks the graduation — leaving behind Volvo spin-off roots and stepping directly into Porsche Taycan territory.

Two versions are coming.
The Dual Motor produces 550kW and 812Nm, hitting 0–100km/h in 3.9 seconds. The flagship Performance lifts outputs to 650kW and 1015Nm, trimming the sprint to 3.2 seconds.
Both pack a 106kWh battery and new 800V architecture capable of 350kW charging. That means faster stops than most rivals. On paper it even nudges past the Porsche Taycan, though Porsche still wins on outright charge times.
Styling is true to the Precept concept: long, low, and unmistakably Scandinavian. One big talking point is the lack of a rear window. In its place, a high-resolution camera system projects to a digital mirror. The same trick appeared on the Polestar 4, but here it feels more refined and deliberate.

Inside, the lounge-like treatment continues.
Sustainable materials. A panoramic glass roof. Optional 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio. In the rear, Recaro seats can heat, ventilate and even massage not your average electric sedan spec sheet.
In context, the Polestar 5 is aggressive. It undercuts Porsche in entry form, while delivering nearly double the power of the base Taycan. It even lands above the Tesla Model S Plaid on raw numbers, though the Tesla lacks the luxury polish.
There’s also some British engineering pedigree baked in. A UK-based team developed bonded aluminium underpinnings that deliver stiffness usually reserved for Lotus or McLaren. It’s a clever way of positioning the 5 as more than just another premium EV.
For buyers who think the BMW iX looks bloated, or that the Lotus Emeya is too extroverted, the Polestar 5 might be the clean, understated choice.
If the Polestar 4 was the warm-up act, this is the headline show, Porsche pace, Swedish restraint, and a price that makes it hard to ignore.
